Sharper Image Corp. reported sales of $34.7 million for the month ended Jan. 31, up 42% from $24.7 million last year.
The San Francisco firm’s catalog sales were $10.3 million, up 16% from $8.9 million last year. Internet sales were $6.1 million, up 64% from $3.7 million last year.
Total store sales were $18.3 million, up 52% from $12 million last year.
“We finished our fiscal year on a positive note,” said CEO Richard Thalheimer, in a statement. “We enjoyed strong January sales in all of our channels — retail stores, Internet, catalog, direct-response television and business-to-business programs.”
For the 11 months ended Dec.31, 2002, catalog sales at Sharper Image increased 42% to $131.1 million over the last year’s sales of $92.4 million. Internet sales, including auction sales, increased 38% to $63.4 million from $46.1 million. Total company sales increased 32% to $472.3 million from $358.5 million. Store sales increased 26% to $277.8 million from $220.1 million.
Based on its strong holiday sales, the firm said it is raising its earnings guidance for the fourth quarter and fiscal year ending Jan. 31, 2003.
Sharper Image opened 20 new stores between December 2001 and December 2002.
