Sharper Image Sales Boost Lead By Catalog, Direct Revenue

Sharper Image Corp., San Francisco, reported a 20% sales increase, from $121.5 million to $145.4 million, between second quarter 2003 and second quarter 2004. Catalog and direct marketing operations realized the biggest increase, a 28% boost from $30.4 million to $39 million.

Comparable store sales were up 1 percent, while total store sales increased 17%, from $73.2 million to $86 million.

The direct-to-consumer sales boost follows a flat sales increase between second quarter 2002 and second quarter 2003, according to a company statement. The company has yet to break out its income for the quarter, but it did say that its per-share income would be between three and five cents per share, compared with five cents per share a year ago.
