Samsung Electronics has launched a multifaceted campaign around the nationwide theatrical release of Fantastic Four next month, including product placement in the movie, a video game and a sweepstakes that will give the grand-prize winner a walk-on role in the movie’s sequel.
Consumer electronics products, business technology and cell phones will be featured both in the movie and Activision’s Fantastic Four video game. In exchange for the product placement, Samsung will promote the film on its ad network of more than 425 consumer Web sites, in print ads and in a commercials created specifically for TV and cinema distribution. The campaign launched last week. The partnering studios are Marvel Studios and 20th Century Fox.
In addition, Samsung is running an online sweeps dangling a non-speaking extra role in Fantastic Four II. The winner and a guest will be flown to the set and given a five-day, four-night stay, as well as $700 spending cash.
The sweeps’ first prize is a 50-inch widescreen HDTV, a home theater setup and a digital camcorder.
Fantastic Four follows a group of astronauts who each gain a unique superpower when their genetic structures are altered after suffering a cosmic radiation disaster. The movie will be released on July 8.
In May 2003, Samsung unveiled a limited-edition cell phone based on one used in the movie The Matrix: Reloaded. Samsung partnered with Warner Brothers on the phone.
