Sales Up at Sportsman’s Guide

The Sportsman’s Guide Inc. reported sales of $36.9 million for the third quarter, compared with $36.5 million one year ago.

Net earnings for the quarter, ended Sept. 30, totaled $269,000. Last year, the net loss for that quarter was $124,000.

For the nine months ended Sept. 30, the South St. Paul, MN, company reported sales of $113.5 million, compared to sales of $107.2 million for the like period in 2001.

“Higher levels of Internet-related sales and lower selling, general and administrative expenses were the fundamental reasons for our stronger-than-anticipated results,” said Gregory R. Binkley, CEO of the outdoor gear manufacturer.

Internet-related sales as a percentage of total sales reached 30% for the second consecutive quarter, compared to approximately 21% for the same period in 2001.

Selling, general and administrative expenses for the third quarter, were $11.0 million or 29.8% of sales. During the same three months last year, sales were $11.9 million or 32.6% of sales.
