Rue de France Top Exec Doesn’t Expect Move, Layoffs

Rue de France, the retailer and catalog acquired by Lillian Vernon Corp., will not be relocated from its Newport, RI, location, Pamela Kelley, president of Rue de France, told DIRECT Newsline.

The home furnishings concern is more upscale than the typical Lillian Vernon products. “I think they want to maintain the differences, so I think their intention is to let us remain in Newport,” said Kelley. Layoffs are not expected.

“We will also be able to take advantage of the greater resources Lillian Vernon has to offer,” Kelley added. “It’s a great opportunity for a small company.”

There are 28,000 names in the last-12-month buyers file. The list will continue to be managed by the Millard Group, Peterborough, NH.

The Rye, NY-based Lillian Vernon announced last week that it had acquired Rue de France, which includes a Newport retail store and a catalog.
