Rodale Press, Emmaus, PA, will eliminate 148 jobs, or approximately 135 of its work force, according to The Morning Call, an Allentown, PA-based newspaper reported.
While the cuts would come from all areas, Rodale’s book business would be hardest hit. The company is a direct mailer of books and magazines in the health and fitness arena, The Morning Press said.
According to the Morning Press, Steven Murphy, Rodale’s president and chief operating officer, indicated that the book division would hire outside authors and increasingly focus on books sold in bookstores than through direct mail.
