Reader’s Digest Posts 13% Income Dip

The Reader’s Digest Association Inc. reported net income of $57.8 million for the second quarter, off 13% from $66.5 million last year.

The direct marketer and publisher reported revenue of $798 million for the quarter ended Dec. 31, up slightly from $796 million last year.

“We are pleased that our net income came in higher than last year and better than we had expected,” said CEO Thomas O. Ryder in a statement. “This was largely the result of very strong profit growth at RD International and better-than-expected results at RD North America, offset by weakness in our Consumer Business Services segment.
