R.R. Donnelley Third Quarter Sees Net Income Slowdown

R.R. Donnelley & Sons, Chicago, had third-quarter 1999 net sales of $1.34 billion, up from $1.27 billion in third-quarter 1998. But the company’s net income during the same period fell, from $99.2 million to $85.6 million.

In a statement that accompanied the earnings, Donnelley chairman and CEO William L. Davis said that the company would “continue to improve the fundamentals of our traditional print business because we believe print will be an important component of an evolving multi-channel communications process.” But Davis also said the company would “lead the way with fully integrated multimedia marketing solutions, whether through traditional print media such as catalogs, magazines, and direct mail, or through the Internet or other electronic devices.”
