Home shopping network QVC received more than 45,000 orders in 49 minutes for a pin designed to raise money to help the American Red Cross with Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
The $16.50 blue enamel ribbon pin features a symbolic white flower to represent the southern states affected by the tragedy. It is a combination of the magnolia, the state flower of Louisiana and Mississippi, and Alabama’s state flower, the camellia. The small crescent in the center represents “The Crescent City” of New Orleans, and the pin’s back contains the words “Hope,” “Help” and “Heal.”
In addition, last week, QVC pledged to raise $3 million for Katrina relief through a portion of product sales. Participating vendors will donate a portion of their sales to the fund and the network will match that donation.
