Quad/Graphics Builds $30 Million Printing Plant

Quad/Graphics has begun construction on a new printing facility in Oklahoma City, OK at a cost estimated to be $30 million.

The plant is expected to commence operations in the summer of 2003 as a Web offset facility with gravure press equipment added to begin operating in 2005, the company said.

The 92,000-square-foot facility will grow to more than 1 million square feet. It will be situated on 168 acres 12 miles southeast of Oklahoma City. A start-up staff of 100 will expand to several hundred.

In July, a major fire broke out in a building adjacent to Quad/Graphics main printing plant in Lomira, WI, causing the collapse of a 10-story paper and product storage building. The building had been used to store unfinished magazine and catalog pages ready for production. The manufacturing facility was undamaged.

Several weeks later, Harry V. Quadracci, the founder and CEO of Quad/Graphics, died of accidental drowning at age 66.
