The offices of Paradysz Matera, New York, closed early yesterday after a deadly scaffolding collapse in the courtyard behind the building.
The building, at 215 Park Ave. South, was evacuated safely around 4 p.m. Wednesday and remained closed Thursday. The office is expected to reopen tomorrow, CEO Chris Paradysz said.
The construction crew on the scaffolding was replacing bricks and fixing windows at about 4 p.m. when the facade on the 20-story building peeled away, knocking them to the ground, according to news reports.
Five construction workers were killed and 11 others were injured.
Police and fire rescue crews were called from the World Trade Center disaster site, about 2 miles south, to hunt for workers injured in the courtyard behind the building.
Eight firefighters and two police officers suffered minor injuries while searching for victims.
Work inside the courtyard of the building at Park Avenue at 18th Street began earlier this week, the report said.
