The Oregon state House of Representatives has passed four bills to ensure the privacy of medical records in the state, according to the Salem Oregon Statesman Journal.
Those bills now go to the state Senate.
The bills apply the federal protections to providers of health services, insurance companies and public agencies.
In a related development, the state Department of Human Services will inform more than a half-million people about the new privacy protections, which are required by federal law and will take effect April 14.
