There are plenty of reasons for retailers to cater to tablet users: they’re a quickly growing segment of the population, they tend to be more affluent than traditional PC users and they tend to spend more. With the holiday season quickly approaching, it’s a bit startling to find that only 7 percent of retailers have websites that are friendly for tablet use, according to Skava. The company found that 52 percent of consumers say the tablet is their favorite device, and 40 percent of tablet owners use it more than their PCs. While the PC version of a site might render properly on tablets, Skava warns that the user experience will suffer if the website doesn’t switch well between landscape and portrait, images don’t work correctly, links are difficult to click on, or the text is too small, among other things. Retailers that have yet to act on this trends will suffer a “huge opportunity cost.” (Marketing Land)
