Online Sales Growing in Few Categories, Says Coremetrics

Most Internet shoppers were literally doing more browsing than buying online in January, but those who actually placed orders went on a bit of a shopping spree, according to the latest data released by Coremetrics Inc.

Consumers in January generally browsed about the same number of Web sites as in December, but the overall number of orders completed was down by 21%.
Online buying decreased in virtually all categories, but not all categories. Among consumers who did make purchases in January, the average number of items per online order increased 23% and the average dollar value of orders rose by 8%, compared to December.
