George Harrison, the U.S.-based chief marketing officer for Nintendo, plans to leave the firm in December.
Rumors began last June that he would resign after the company decided to move its sales and marketing teams from Redmond, WA, to San Francisco and New York.
Harrison, a seasoned veteran who has been with the company since 1992, said yesterday that he plans to stay on through the end of December to prepare the San Francisco and New York City offices for opening, as well as recruiting staff that won’t be making the move.
Recruiting for Harrison’s replacement is underway, but no one has yet been identified, he said.
He said he has no specific plans at the moment other than “to do some skiing and recharge my batteries while I think about my next challenge.”
The Japanese company has been seeing success with its Wii gaming system and DS handheld device. In August, the Wii was the top selling game console.
