A veritable Who’s Who of former National Football League stars will tackle Nine Pins for charity in the fourth annual Super Bowl Celebrity Bowling Classic later this month.
This year’s event will be staged at Pin Chasers—Veterans in Tampa, FL, on the evening of Jan. 29. The Big Game takes place on Feb. 1. Proceeds from the event will benefit the NFL’s Youth Education Town initiative in Tampa Bay, which supports learning and recreational centers for at-risk youth.
Organizers report that the annual pre-Super Bowl bowling bash has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars over the past several years.
The NFL stars will also conduct a private bowling clinic for local Tampa Bay elementary school students at the same bowling alley the day before the charity event.
“The Super Bowl Celebrity Bowling Classic is a fantastic event and a tremendous amount of fun for both the players and fans who participate,” said NFL Hall of Famer Lynn Swann, in a statement.
Along with Swann, former NFL players participating include the Buffalo Bills’ Thurman Thomas, the Chicago Bears’ Dick Butkus, Carl Eller and Paul Krause of the Minnesota Vikings, Lawrence Taylor and Harry Carson of the New York Giants, Kellen Winslow of the San Diego Chargers, the New York Jets’ Don Maynard, the Dallas Cowboys’ Mel Renfro and Paul Warfield of Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins fame.
The event is open to the public, with entry fees of $300 per individual and $1,000 for teams of four bowlers, as donations to NFL Charities. Those interested in participating can contact tournament director Nick Nicolosi at 201-489-0049 or at [email protected].
