Nextel Eyes DM for NASCAR Campaign

Nextel Communications Inc. was working on plans at deadline for direct mail and online advertising to support its new NASCAR Nextel Cup Series TV ads. The campaign began with TV commercials on Sunday during the National Football League’s AFC championship game.

“The Web site and direct mail parts are in development now,” said Nextel spokesman Michael Mooney.

The budget was not disclosed.

The cell phone and mobile communications company launched this campaign’s to help promote its sponsorship of the automobile racing organization in the lead-up to into its season-opening race, the Daytona 500, on Feb. 15.

Reston, VA-based Nextel will also run a TV spot immediately following the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl Feb. 1.

The effort continues on NBC prime time and late-night television as well as on cable networks TNT and SPEED Channel through the Daytona 500.
