Contact "Hi"
Hi.net, hello.com, justsayhi.com and other greeting-esque syndicates
are scrambling to become the next prominent MySpace/ social dating
network. With Friendster a near-defunct entity in the States but
emerging as a powerhouse in Southeast Asia, this journalist is curious
to see which international player will emerge to compete. The
Friendster site, prone to crashing, slowness and general
incapadability since inception, seems prime for a rival. MySpace came
on the scene mere months after Friendster, and the fast follower
certainly proved victorious over the first mover.
So what is Next? Will it be a "Fleeting Greeting," or will one of the
"welcome" web sites be worthy enough for the top spot? I have
commissioned a group of fledgling entrepreneurs in the Silicon Valley
to create a distinctly
opposite online social sensation. My site, "GoodbyeGirls.net", will
feature people posting their break-ups, desires and availability. "My
boyfriend cheated on me and now I’m looking for physical recourse" and
that kind of variety.
Creative Thinking
free-lance designers are driving up prices on the lamen business
owners. Maybe it’s the market, perhaps it is the competition, and in
all likelihood it is just plain supply vs. demand. In any event, the
designers have all the power these days. They can work for seventeen
Companies simultaneously, engage their business from home, and tell
you "I just don’t have time" to command three times more pay. "Play
on, playa" is what I say! If the money is being granted, then seize
what you can. As a wise man said to me once, "I’m wearing my
catcher’s gear today." "Why?", I asked, perplexed. ‘Cuz I got so
many people throwing money at me I don’t know what to do."
Happy 4th
All of us pounded our users with "4th of July" related From and
Subject lines on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and it seemed to have backfired
a bit. Numerous sources have complained of an "online marketing
slowdown" yesterday, July 4th. ISP’s were said to have suffered "the
fewest emails since 9/12/01. Wow. A spokesperson from AOL was quoted
as saying, "if we know that next year will be as bad as this, we will
whitelist www.pornopatty.com just to get a little extra flavor in our
inboxes!
