THE CITIZENS’ COUNCIL ON HEALTH CARE: has issued a warning to consumers that a recent Subway ad promoting its food as a healthier alternative to fast food restaurants is misleading. The St. Paul, Minn.-based non-profit health care policy organization takes issue with an ad featuring spokesman Jared Fogle, who lost a significant amount of weight in part to eating smaller portions of Subway food. In the ad, Fogle said eating Subway sandwiches is healthier than eating McDonald’s burgers. The organization points out Subway serves both high and low-calorie items. It is appealing to the food and restaurant industry to stop ads that attack other companies.
