WALGREEN CO.: will buy retail clinic operator Take Care Health Systems, which runs 59 Health Corner clinics in retail stores five cities. Walgreen plans to build a portfolio of health care services, using its 5,700 pharmacies and the Health Corner clinics in Chicago, Kansas City, Milwaukee, St. Louis and Pittsburgh as the foundation. First step is to roll out more than 400 Health Corner Clinics in Walgreen stores by the end of 2008. The acquisition is expected to close this week; terms were not disclosed. Retail health clinics are a fast-growing sector: There will be about 500 clinics operating by year end, up from 160 clinics last fall, according to Managed Healthcare Executive magazine (March 2007 PROMO).

LA MATADORA COSMETICS: has hired Steel Advertising & Interactive to develop a strategic marketing initiative and online presence to help build and extend its brand to Latina women in the United States. The company’s skincare and beauty line are targeted specifically to Latina women.
