Nearly 75% Of Internet Users Are Now Shopping

Nearly three quarters of Internet users are now making purchases online buying and 82% of this group is making multiple purchases, according to market research firm Greenfield Online.

Persons aged 25 to 35 are doing the most online buying, with men just slightly more likely to be purchasing than women

In the last 12 months, consumer e-commerce penetration peaked at 74% in the quarter after Christmas and then leveled off at 70% in each of the next two quarters. Participation in online auctions also has plateaued at just over 40% for three quarters, the study noted.

The study, fielded in August, polled 3,000 voluntary respondents.
