‘MySpace’ is Top Search Term in December

Hitwise recently released its lists of the top 10 industry search terms based on U.S. Internet usage during the four weeks ending Dec. 27, 2008, and showed that “myspace” was the top overall search term.

Of all December searches successfully driving traffic to Web sites, “myspace” sat atop the list with volume of 0.74 percent. “craigslist” was second with 0.47 percent, followed by “ebay” with 0.37 percent, “youtube” with 0.29 percent and “facebook” with 0.26 percent.

“myspace.com,” “walmart,” “yahoo,” “mapquest” and “amazon” rounded out the top 10 list.

For the IT and Internet category, “paypal” was the top search term with 6.38 percent of search volume. “toyota" was the top search term in the Automotive Manufacturers category with 1.69 percent.

“cnn” was the top search term in the Broadcast Media category with 4.47 percent, while “hotels.com” was the top Travel Destinations and Accommodations search term with 0.40 percent of search volume.
