‘MORTAL COMBAT’ POSTER CALLED OFFENSIVE

Britain’s Advertising Standards Authority has deemed a promotional poster, advertising the video game “Mortal Kombat,” offensive. The authority ruled that Midway games, the software developer of the game, must consult with an industry advice body before advertising in Britain again.

The poster, which shows the image of a hooded youth wiping his bloodied hand on the shoulder of a middle-aged businessman with the logo “It’s in us all,” had been judged to be offensive by the ASA. The ASA ruled the poster was irresponsible because it could be seen by children, according to Reuters. The game itself, “Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance” is rated for players age 18 or older.
