Mobile Ad Spending Hit $8.4 Billion in 2012, Set to Reach $13.6 Billion in 2013

According to eMarketer, global mobile ad spending reached $8.41 billion in 2012, up 105.8 percent from $4.08 billion in 2011. In 2013, mobile ad spending is expected to reach $13.58 billion, up 61.6 percent from 2012. By 2016, eMarketer expects mobile ad spending to hit $36.87 billion. “eMarketer’s estimates of worldwide mobile ad spending include dollars going toward display and search advertising only, and exclude spending on messaging-based formats. Spending on tablets is also included,” the company explains.

According to eMarketer, mobile ad spending in the U.S. grew 220.0 percent in 2012 and is expected to grow 81.7 percent this year. In North America, $3.95 billion was spent on mobile advertising in 2012. This figure is expected to hit $7.16 billion in 2013.
