Boston-based Mobee secured $1.1 million in seed funding and is out of private beta this week. The company’s app rewards shoppers who provide relevant feedback about businesses they visit. It’s based on the mystery-shopping experiences of one of the company’s co-founders. Mobee uses a concept of “live mission,” which ask users to rate things like wait times and cleanliness, among other things. In exchange, users get gift cards and other prizes. “We see ourselves as above Yelp, as there’s a little bit more effort in the questions you answer through your mobile device,” one of the company’s co-founders says. He goes on to say that businesses are drawn to this data because it will help them standardize their operations and monitor their stores in real-time. While Mobee doesn’t have official partners yet, it is building up data to show businesses like Starbucks and Subway what it’s been able to collect. (TechCrunch)
