Missouri Probes Post-Dispatch Phone Violation Charges

The Missouri Attorney General Friday was still investigating complaints that the daily St. Louis Post-Dispatch newspaper violated the state’s do-not-call law which prohibits telemarketing to people who specifically request not to be called.

In last Thursday’s editions, newspaper general manager Matthew Kraner, said the company was notified “that we had a very small percentage of folks on the no-call list contacted by our independent telemarketing firm” to sell subscriptions.

“We are rectifying the situation. It was due to a problem with the software that the telemarketing company uses to generate its call list, and we believe we are making the proper adjustments to continue to comply with the law,” said Kraner.

Kraner declined to name the firm.

If found guilty, the Post-Dispatch could be fined as much as $5,000 per violation.
