Missouri Bills Seek to Extend No-Call List to Cell Numbers

State legislators in Missouri have introduced bills permitting cell phone numbers to be added to the state’s telemarketing do-not call list, Direct Newsline has learned.

Earlier this month state Rep. David Pearce (R-Warrensburg) proposed House Bill 89 that would allow business and residential cell phone numbers to be registered on the state’s do-not-call list.

State-Sen.-elect LuAnn Ridgeway (R-Smithville) later introduced a companion measure, Senate Bill 130, in the upper chamber.

Both bills also seek to block text-message spam by protecting cell phones on the No Call list from receiving such messages.

Under Missouri law, legislators can “pre-file” bills in December that can be considered in the legislative session that begins in January, explained spokesman Jim Gardner.

Since 1991, it has been illegal for telemarketers to make unsolicited phone calls to wireless phones without the consent of those to whom a wireless number has been assigned, according to spokeswoman Laura Colona.
