Target Corp.’s discount department store chain, Mervyn’s, plans to renew its partnership with Major League Baseball this year to benefit the league’s grassroots youth organization, Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI).
Dubbed Mervyn’s Bases to Benefit RBI, the program began last year with the Los Angeles Dodgers and this year includes 29 of the New York City-based MLB’s teams.
From July 1 to July 14, fans visit www.MLB.com to bid on bases decorated and autographed by baseball players and celebrities. Auction proceeds go to RBI, which is committed to promoting youth interest in baseball and encouraging kids to stay in school.
Baseball Hall of Fame members Joe Morgan and Tony Perez are the official spokespersons for the program and will decorate their own bases to be auctioned at the site.
