McSCANDAL RINGLEADER TESTIFIES

Jerome Jacobson, the former Simon Marketing security director whose embezzlement ring stole $20 million worth of McDonald’s Monopoly game pieces, testified last week that he recruited his friends to find people to redeem the stolen game pieces.

Jacobson, who pleaded guilty in April and faces 15 years in prison, testified in U.S. District Court in Jacksonville, FL, against five men accused of participating in the scam, reports the Associated Press. Jacobson, who earned $75,000 as Simon’s security director, testified that he didn’t know how much he made from the scheme, but bought $1 million in property and cars with kickbacks from fraudulent winners who got game pieces from Jacobson. He and a “recruiter” persuaded people to redeem game pieces by telling them that the legitimate winner was getting divorced and didn’t want his estranged wife to know about the prize, AP reports. There are still 23 people under investigation and may be more arrests. More than 50 people have been charged; most pleaded guilty.
