Long John Silver’s to Give Free Shrimp if H2O is Found on Mars

Long John Silver’s, Inc. will give away a new menu item—free giant shrimp—if conclusive evidence of an ocean is discovered on Mars.

If NASA notes the discovery prior to Feb. 29, consumers get free giant shrimp at participating restaurants on Mar. 15. Consumers can find updates on NASA’s progress by visiting www.ljsilvers.com.

The promotion touts the new shrimp offering and celebrates NASA’s efforts to find traces of ocean water and possibly evidence of life on Mars with its Mars Exploration Rover, which landed on the planet earlier this month.

“The ‘Free Giant Shrimp’ offer is our way of saying NASA’s exploration of Mars and the discovery of ocean water would be ‘one small step for man, one giant leap for seafood,'” said Steve Davis, president of Long John Silver’s, in a letter to NASA. Additionally, Davis expressed interest in Long John Silver’s becoming the first seafood restaurant on Mars.

Consumers can buy the giant shrimp at the chain’s more than 1,250 restaurants beginning Feb. 16.
