Loews Cineplex Entertainment and Sports Illustrated for Kids are joining forces to offer a summer promotion in which kids can escape the heat and go to the movies for free.

The Free Summer Kids Film Series invites kids under 12 and accompanying adults to see a movie for free in 36 theaters nationwide, including Los Angeles, New York City, Dallas, Boston, Chicago, and Orlando, FL. The film series kicks off June 29 and runs every Wednesday at 11 a.m. for eight weeks through Aug. 17.

Movies to be aired during the promotion include Shrek, Shark Tale, Ice Age and The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. In addition, Loews will offer a special concession package — soda and popcorn — for kids at a discounted price of $4.25. As part of the promotion, Sports Illustrated for Kids will invite advertisers to the series to hand out giveaways in select markets.

“Summer Kids Films Series presents a fun way for kids to come together at the theater to see some of their favorite films with their friends,” said John McCauley, senior VP-marketing, Loews Cineplex Entertainment. “We are also very pleased to see the success and acceptance from parents with respect to timing, location and prices — which is free. Ultimately, we feel that this event and others we do go a long way in building loyalty among the parents and kids.”

Print ads in the June issue of Sports Illustrated for Kids, Internet materials, e-mail blasts and in-theater signage support. For participating locations, consumers can log on to enjoytheshow.com/kidsfilmseries.

This is the second year Loews has offered the promotion. Sports Illustrated for Kids signed on with Loews for its first sponsorship of the event.

Sports Illustrated for Kids is excited to partner with Loews for the Free Summer Kids Film Series,” said Dave Watt, the magazine’s publisher in a statement. “This is a great opportunity for us to increase awareness of the Sports Illustrated for Kids brand and for our advertisers to get their products directly into the hands of kids around the country.”
