Prompted by high demand, United Media is bringing back its popular Charlie Brown Christmas tree promotion with Urban Outfitters this year, and is extending its partnership with the retailer to include other iconic staples from the comic strip.
For the holiday, consumers can buy replicas of the infamous tree from A Charlie Brown Christmas. The retailer launched a similar promotion in 2005 tied to the 40th anniversary of the show. The tree comes complete with bare branches and one red ball ornament and will sell for about $24, Cindy Slocki, Peanuts licensing manager for United Media said.
United Media was one of the presenters at The L.A. Office RoadShow Hollywood entertainment marketing event.
In addition, United Media is building off its Peanuts popularity with a new Urban Outfitters offering—a Linus blanket. The chain will begin selling full-length, blue, satin-trim blankets modeled after the Peanuts’ thumb-sucking cartoon character, Linus. Each blanket will include an imprint of Linus. As part of the promotion, Urban Outfitters will donate $5 with every blanket purchase to the Project Linus charity, which makes blanket donations to those in need. The blankets will sell for $34.
Urban Outfitters will also sell CDs, DVD sets and boxed note sets featuring exclusive artwork from the Peanuts franchise, Slocki said.
Peanut holiday items will hit stores in Oct.
United Media is also building buzz around a new incarnation of live-action show El Chavo, with a new animated version set to debut in 2007 in the U.S. To honor Hispanic Heritage month this fall, the animated version of the show will be featured on a half million packages of Apple Jacks and Froot Loops cereal through October in the U.S. The cereal boxes will contain on-pack games for kids.
El Chavo is a show the funny, endearing stories of an eight-year-old boy, called El Chavo, who lives in a barrel.
