Live From L.A.: DMA Skips B-to-B Excellence Award

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

In announcing the winner of the Direct Marketing Association’s second annual net.marketing Excellence Award for a consumer site, Laura Freedman, president of the E-tailing Group Inc., said the DMA would not be giving an award this year in the business-to-business category. She asked companies to be more vigilant about making such recommendations. The DMA only got a few B-to-B nominations and none rose to the level of deserving the award, DMA spokeswoman Amy Blankenship later explained.

Last year, Oki Semiconductor, Oki Business Digital won in the B-to-B category, while Fragrance Counter won the direct-to-consumer award.

This year’s winner in the consumer category, Freedman announced during the morning session of the DMA’s conference in Los Angeles, is N2K Inc.’s My Music Boulevard (http://www.my.musicblvd.com).

The DMA said that My Music Boulevard, launched in October 1998, offers extensive music content, including features that enable customers to design their own Web sites. The DMA said the site was designed to build trust with its customers–in addition to a privacy policy statement, the site has a sign-up process where customers identify how often they want to receive e-mail newsletters and on what subject. It also has an easy process for unsubscribing and/or changing a customer profile to adjust frequency or content of e-mail newsletters, the DMA said.
