IN THE NEWS

Nextmark Receives Patent for Database Process
Nextmark Inc. has been awarded a U.S. patent for a database management process that standardizes how databases are configured for storing prospecting lists.

The inventors of this “business process” are Nextmark’s president Joseph T. Pych and James T. Ford, a former database architect at Nextmark.

“We applied for a patent in 2000 and it took six years to get it,” said Pych.

The technology standardizes common data elements such as address, age and gender. It automatically creates additional data fields for storing more unique information, which is normally lost when two or more files are combined.

Large databases with homogenous structures do not support all the disparate data, particularly cooperative database which have so many data sources, according to Pych.

Data typically gets lost when there’s no designated data field to capture information or due to coding problems, he said. Nextmark’s patented process is designed to overcome this problem by creating additional fields while the data is being downloaded.

Nextmark is looking to form partnerships with list service bureaus interested in using its patented process or software developed by Nextmark for database management.

The company has additional patents pending approval.
