Lands’ End Income Skyrockets in Quarter

Lands’ End Inc. reported net income of $16.5 million for the first quarter, a more than 100% increase over $5.9 million for the same period last year.

Revenue was $341 million, up 10% from $311 million last year. The quarter ended May 3.

Internet–based sales of $79 million were 46.3% over $54 million. Sales in the Dodgeville, WI-based company’s core business segment rose 14% to $198 million, helped by its women’s division. International sales of $32 million rose 12.5% from $28 million.

Gross profit for the quarter was $157 million, or 46% of total revenue, compared with $132 million, or 42.4% of total revenue.

Last Monday, Sears, Roebuck and Co., Hoffman Estates, IL, announced that it would purchase Lands’ End for about $1.9 billion.
