Kmart Holding Onto Lands’ End

(Direct Newsline)—The Lands’ End catalog will not be sold.

According to news reports, when shareholders approved the Sears-Kmart merger last week, the chairman of the merged company, Edward Lampert stressed that the catalog is going to stay put.

“Lands’ End isn’t for sale,” Kmart Holding Corp. chairman Edward Lampert said. “It’s a great American brand, and I think it’s a brand that we could run very, very well.”

Earlier this month, Sears was reported to be seeking a buyer for its Lands’ End catalog company at an asking price below the $1.9 billion it paid in 2002 (Direct Newsline, March 15).

When Kmart acquired Sears last November for $11 billion, direct marketing industry observers saw that possible direct marketing good could come out of the deal, although there were many question marks.

The name of the combined Sears and Kmart company will be Sears Holdings Corp. Its stock is expected to start trading on the Nasdaq National Market on Monday under the stock symbol “SHLD.”
