Ha-Lo Industries, Niles, IL, this morning announced that John Kelley had been reinstated as ceo of Upshot, the company’s promotion agency. The appointment could clear the way for the shop to be sold.
Kelley returns to the agency he co-founded about 14 months after he was elevated to ceo of Ha-Lo, which acquired Chicago-based Upshot in 1998 as part of a bid to expand its business beyond promotional products distribution. Last month, Ha-Lo named financial whiz Marc Simon ceo while stating that it was negotiating to sell at least a portion of its marketing services units (Feb. 21 XTRA).
Sources close to the company say any deal for Upshot was dependent on Kelley remaining with the shop.
