J.C. Penney Co. Inc. catalog sales were expected to be down 20% for the month of July. Same-store department stores sales through the month are on track to decline 2% to 4%.
Catalog sales for the Plano, TX-based firm have trended 15% below one year ago, pressured by weak consumer demand, according to news reports.
The merchandise categories showing the best sales were jewelry, home items and women’s accessories.
