J.C. Penney Catalog Sales Decrease in March

J.C. Penney Company Inc.’s catalog sales decreased 13.1% in March.

Internet sales, which are included in the catalog figure, increased by 19% last month.

For the five weeks ended March 29, catalog sales were $238 million, a 13.1% decrease from sales of $274 million for the same period in 2002. Total company sales were $2.84 billion, compared to $2.96 billion for last March, a 4.2% decrease.

The company had projected a drop of 15% for catalog sales in March.
