ITV Digital May Cut 1,400 U.K. Call Center Positions

About 1,400 call center workers are likely to lose their jobs as a result of the liquidation of U.K. broadcaster ITV Digital.

The BBC reported on Wednesday that about 900 call center employees at Pembroke Dock in Wales–contracted to ITV through Manpower, an employment firm–will probably be laid off. Another 500 at a Plymouth call center also face layoffs.

On Tuesday, 225 staff at the company’s London headquarters, including senior management, lost their jobs, according to the BBC.

ITV Digital’s approximately 20 pay-TV channels, such as MTV and UK Gold, went dark on Wednesday morning. An on-screen message advised customers of the situation and gave a contact number for more information. Subscribers are still receiving a dozen “free-to-air” digital channels, including BBC Four, BBC Choice and ITV 2.
