Roll em’ – but not so much. The number of screens in U.S. movie theaters is steadily declining. The National Association of Theater Owners reports that there were 36,012 indoor and 640 drive-in screens in 2004, down from 25,830 indoor and 859 drive-in in 1994.

According to Promo magazine, the recent “Curious George” flick got a multi-million dollar boost thanks to a DVD plugging a tie-in video game in 17 million boxes of Life cereal and on 10,000 in-store Dole banana displays. “George” themed sweepstakes were also featured on boxes of Cold-Eeze and 1.2 million Carvel ice cream product packages .
