Internet advertising revenue for the first six months of 2005 was approximately $5.8 billion, up 26% over last year, according to the Interactive Advertising Bureau.
The largest category increase was in the area of lead generation and referrals which increased three-fold from $114 million to $347 million.
For the second quarter, Internet advertising revenue totaled $2.985 billion, also up 26% over last year. Though revenue gains narrowed in the second quarter of 2005, representing a 6.6% increase over the first quarter of this year.
Greg Stuart, CEO of IAB attributed the gains in Internet advertising revenue to more advertising agencies accepting the Internet as an advertising medium. “At the end of the day, it is about increased effectiveness from your marketing dollars and Interactive delivers this.”
