Later this month, the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival will take place in the south of France, and for the first time, the festival will honor the best work in promotion marketing, drawn from 622 entries submitted from more than 40 countries.
Just as the film industry holds its festival on the French Riviera in Cannes each spring, the marketing industry holds an international marketing forum in the same locale. The 53rd International Advertising Festival will be held this year from June 18-24. Its highlight is the awards program, the Cannes Lions.
“This is another record-breaking year for entries,” said Terry Savage, executive chairman of the festival, in a release. He noted strong growth in the Media Lions (up 36%), Cyber Lions (up 32%) and Titanium categories, which recognize “break-through ideas” (up 52%). Savage also expressed satisfaction with the initial volume of entries in the promotion category.
Overall, the U.S. submitted the most promotion entries (114), followed by Germany (102), the U.K. (65), Brazil (53) and Spain (47). The selections of the international panel of judges will be announced during the festival.
