Impower Lays Off Half of Staff, Closes Two Offices

E-mail marketing company Impower Inc. has laid off half its staff and closed two of its four offices, DIRECT Newsline has learned.

Impower, a division of American List Counsel, headquartered in Princeton, NJ, by Wednesday afternoon had cut 40 professionals from its ranks, a source has confirmed. One of them is Mark R. Zilling, vice president of business-to-business markets. The names of other professionals could not be confirmed at press time. But it was confirmed that 50% of the staff have lost their jobs.

The Princeton office and the Stamford, CT, offices have been shuttered, though Gregory C. Ellis, COO and president continues to run the company from Princeton. Impower had moved into the ALC offices recently.

The Stamford staff handled postal and e-mail list brokerage. Company operations were run from Princeton.

The San Francisco and Peterborough, NH, offices are “healthy, ongoing concerns,” said the source. Impower is reorganizing around them.

The San Francisco office handles e-mail brokerage and other e-mail interactive services. Peterborough is the home of ImpowerBase, the company’s e-mail database division and ImpowerMail, an e-mail service bureau. Eric Zilling, a company founder, retains his role as president of ImpowerBase, overseeing ImpowerMail.
