Home Depot To Honor NFL Players for Community Service

Home Depot, the official home improvement sponsor of the National Football League, is running a national program to recognize players who make a positive impact through various community projects this season.

The Home Depot NFL Neighborhood MVP will honor 17 players for work they’ve done to refurbish a football field, build a playground or donate to a local charity. Each player will work with representatives of national non-profit organization Kaboom on the respective projects, and volunteers from local Home Depot stores.

At year’s end, one player will be selected as The Home Depot NFL Neighborhood MVP of the Year, and recognized during Super Bowl week. A $25,000 donation will be awarded to the charity of the winning athlete’s choice.

“The Home Depot and the NFL are two organizations that share a commitment to giving back to the local communities,” said Roger Adams, Home Depot chief marketing officer and senior vice president of marketing, in a statement.

The MVP will be selected by a panel of judges and consumers who can cast votes online at HomeDepot.com/NFL. Voting commences on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22.

Home Depot has already enlisted the players, including Brian Dawkins, Philadelphia Eagles; Daryn Colledge, Green Bay Packers; Lee Evans, Buffalo Bills; Gary Brackett, Indianapolis Colts; Hines Ward, Pittsburgh Steelers; John Lynch, Denver Broncos; Marcus Trufant, Seattle Seahawks; Isaac Bruce, St. Louis Rams; Warrick Dunn, Atlanta Falcons; Antwaan Randle El, Washington Redskins; Kevin Mawae, Tennessee Titans; Rashean Mathis, Jacksonville Jaguars; Kassim Osgood, San Diego Chargers; Roy Williams, Dallas Cowboys; Kurt Warner, Arizona Cardinals; Nnamdi Asomugha, Oakland Raiders and Jason Taylor, Miami Dolphins.

The first two field refurbishments took place this week at the Roxborough YMCA in Philadelphia, PA, and at Green Bay West High School in Green Bay, WI.

Home Depot is also teaming up with the United Way to recognize people making a positive impact in their communities. People can nominate themselves or a neighbor as Consumer Neighborhood MVP at HomeDepot.com/NFL through Dec. 31. Home Depot also will recognize one of its store associates as the Associate Neighborhood MVP.

The consumer and Home Depot associate MVPs will win an all-expenses paid trip to Super Bowl XLII.

Home Depot became the official home improvement sponsor of the NFL in late 2006. Octagon is overseeing its NFL sponsorship. Creative Digital Group developed the creative aspect of the Neighborhood MVP campaign.
