Holiday Online Shopping Up 35% From 2002’s Levels

Consumers spent $18.5 billion online during the 2003 holiday season, up 35% from the $13.7 billion they spent during the two months leading up to the New Year in 2002. The increased spending reflects consumers increased bullishness regarding online shopping: In 2002, consumers anticipated spending 16.3% of their budgets online. Asked in 2003, they foresaw devoting 19.7% of their budget to it.
