Hitachi Taps Marketing Vet for VP Post

A year after joining Maxell Corp. of America, 15-year consumer electronics veteran Daniel Lee has left the company to become the VP of marketing for Hitachi America, Ltd.

Effective immediately, Lee will work in the consumer electronic company’s Ubiquitous Platform Systems Division. There, he will direct Hitachi’s U.S.-based marketing, communications and advertising strategies across Hitachi’s line of consumer electronics, including high-definition plasma, LCD and projection TVs and DVD camcorders. Additionally, Lee will be responsible for San Diego, CA-based Hitachi’s. brand awareness efforts, including its new Power Unleashed integrated national advertising campaign. Lee replaces Leo Delaney.

“When looking at a brand, you have to see how it can take the forefront in whatever category it represents or industry it’s in,” Lee said. “With the Hitachi brand, there’s a special opportunity to elevate it to the next level. We need to bring [the next level] even closer to reality because we’re a technology company with great products.”

While at Maxell, Lee served as VP-marketing, advertising and sales support in the data product as well as the consumer and professional products group. Prior to Maxell, Lee was the director of marketing communications at LG Electronics, playing a leading role in that company’s entrance into the U.S. electronics and major appliance markets.

“Daniel Lee brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of the U.S. consumer electronics marketplace to our company and his appointment will allow Hitachi to further expand its flat panel brand awareness, prestige and market share,” said Kenji Nakamura, VP and general manager, Hitachi in a statement. “We are fortunate to have Daniel on board to help us build on the strength of the Hitachi brand and our original technologies.”

Hitachi America, Ltd., is a subsidiary of Japan-based Hitachi, Ltd., a global electronics company with 2005 sales totaling $80.9 billion.
