Hershey’s Marketing Chief Resigns

A top Hershey’s Co. executive is leaving to pursue other initiatives.

Thomas Hernquist, the company’s global chief growth officer, resigned last Friday. He plans to work in areas that “leverage strategic consumer insights and innovation,” the company said. His last day is Dec. 31.

The company didn’t say if a replacement would be named.

Hernquist’s resignation comes amid other recent management shifts. Chief Executive Rick Lenny left the company on Nov. 30. David West, the firm’s COO, is replacing Lenny. Last month, eight independent directors resigned, according to news reports. Six were forced out and two left on their own, the reports said.

Hernquist joined Hershey in 2003 as senior vice president, chief marketing officer. He helped led the company’s growth in its core products and the North American portfolio. Prior to that, Hernquist worked as senior vice president, global marketing at Fortune Brands, overseeing the company’s distilled spirits business.

His career includes working as senior vice president of marketing for Nabisco’s biscuit division and vice president and general manager of Entenmann’s. Hernquist started his career at Frito-Lay, Inc.
