Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. posted net income of $6 million for the second quarter, an 89% increase over $3.1 million in the prior year.
The direct marketer reported net sales of $120.9 million for the quarter ended March 29, a 46% increase over $82.9 million last year.
The Waterbury, VT firm attributed these results partly to shipping about 193,000 Keurig brewers during the quarter, an increase of 130% over the prior year.
The firm reported net sales for its coffee segment of $81 million for the quarter, a 37% increase over $59.3 million last year.
Green Mountain said its consolidated cost of net sales increased to 63% of total net sales during the quarter, an increase over 60.8% in the prior year. The firm attributed this to higher sales for certain coffee brewers which carry lower margins than other company products.
