Gorman Steps Aside as L.L Bean CEO

Long-term L.L. Bean Inc. president and CEO Leon A. Gorman, the grandson of company founder Leon Leonwood Bean, has stepped aside but will remain active as chairman of the board.

Chris McCormick, 45, has been named to succeed Gorman as president and CEO of the 89 year-old, family-owned business based Freeport, ME. McCormick is an 18-year veteran of L.L. Bean who was recently named to the position of COO. He is the first non-family member to run the 89-year-old company.

McCormick joined L.L. Bean in 1983 as assistant advertising manager. Prior to his elevation to COO, he held many positions of increasing responsibility, most recently serving as senior vice president and chief marketing officer. He was instrumental in developing L.L.
